A Free Market of Ideas

George Bernard Shaw said: "Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it." It is true, most people are terrified of liberty, petrified they might have to be responsible for their own lives. "The Autonomist," is not for them.

No More Trips to the Moon
Alan Caruba—10/7/10
I turn 73 on October 9th and, to be honest, I feel sorry for anyone who has not lived during much of the last century. In a very real way, America's Apollo program that put men on the Moon on July 20, 1969 was as an exciting a moment in history as anyone could ask to experience.

In Defense of Plastic
Tom DeWeese—10/7/10
I am fed up to my burning ears with the carte blanche castigation of plastic. Plastic is one of the greatest inventions ever, not only for modern society, but also for the environment. If plastic seems to now pose an environmental threat, it's not plastic's fault - but the fault of the environmental movement itself.

Obama Making Room For Hillary At The Top?
J. D. Longstreet —10/7/10
I believe Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic Party's candidate for US President in 2012. Over the past -- little more than a year and a half -- I have watched Obama going through the motions while his handlers pull the strings. (The Shadow Government, remember?) As we approach the Mid-Term election in November, I believe the Obama puppeteers know they have accomplished nearly all they can hope for with Obama, and they are very near to cutting his strings.

The Ugly Truth About Politicians
Burt Prelutsky—10/6/10
A while back, in writing about Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell, I accepted the rumors about her financial difficulties. Since then, I've heard that she has explained them all away. I wouldn't know. My point in writing about her alleged problems in the first place was that I didn't care. I wanted her to win the Senate race in Delaware because if elected, she would vote the way I wanted.

Why Tolerate Deadly Food Bacteria
Dennis T. Avery—10/6/10
CHURCHVILLE, VA-We're into the second wave of anguish about the 1600 people made ill by salmonella-contaminated eggs, which caused the recall of a billion fresh eggs.

Obama's Wars
J. D. Longstreet—10/6/10
Remember how Obama continually stated how the war in Iraq was "The Wrong War." Remember how Obama remarked that President George W. Bush made a mistake by moving much of our war fighting capability from Afghanistan to Iraq?

Call 1-8700-Ask-A-Lawyer
Michael R. Shannon—10/5/10
In a recent Washington Post story, University of Virginia Law Professor A.E. Dick Howard ruled it is not unconstitutional to ask your lawyer a question. This is a load off my mind, because when it comes to constitutional questions one never knows where a law professor is likely to alight.

Greens shackle national security--and renewable energy
Paul Driessen—10/5/10
"China's control of a key minerals market has US military thinkers and policy makers worried about access to materials that are essential for 21st-century technology like smartphones - and smart bombs," the Wall Street Journal reports. Plus stealth fighter jets, digital cameras, computer hard drives - and wind turbine magnets, solar panels, hybrid and electric car batteries, compact fluorescent light bulbs, catalytic converters, and more.

The GOP's Choice For President
J. D. Longstreet—10/5/10
There are those who will say NOW is not the time to expend mental energy on ciphering the inner workings of the GOP and the machinations they go through to choose a presidential candidate. Those who say that may very well be correct, but here we go, anyway.
