Michał Kamiński asks the European Commission for clear guidelines regarding energy security

Brussels, 11th October 2010
The Chairman of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group in the European Parliament Michał Kamiński MEP has submitted a written question concerning energy security and the Polish-Russian natural gas deal, which is being criticised by the European Commission for undermining the energy security of the EU.

According to Mr. Gunther Oettinger, the EU Energy Commissioner, the contract - which is being negotiated by Poland and the Russian Federation - breaches EU legislation, mostly because it would prevent other companies from gaining access to the pipelines.

Mr. Kamiński welcomed the Commissioner's concern. He said:
"The commission is right to be concerned that this bilateral contract between Poland and Russia could have much wider consequences for energy and, consequently, political security right across the EU."
